Ter nagedachtenis aan de slachtoffers die tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog vielen op zee, maakte Fred Carasso (1899-1969) dit Nationale Monument voor de Koopvaardij. De boeg bestaat uit een 46 meter hoge gestileerde scheepsboeg die betonnen golven doorklieft. In 1965 werd de beeldengroep aan de voet van het monument toegevoegd. Op de basis van het monument.
